MEMORIAL DAY
“The patriot’s blood is the seed of Freedom’s tree.” – Thomas Campbell
“No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country.” – George S. Patton
On Memorial Day, Americans reflect on those men (and women) who died in defense of this nation that we hold so dear. Americans look at America with awe and wonder and are grateful to live in a nation so free. This nation has been the recipient of so much freedom and so much economic might that it would make the great (past) Empires of the Earth stand in awe. But as we look at where this country has headed, we must ask: Is America still great? Has the blood of the Soldiers, Marines, Sailors and Airmen been spent wisely, or in vain?
I posted two contradictory quotes at the beginning of this post. One is the nice, politically correct quote. The other is the hard reality quote. The fact is that America is not free because over one million men gave up their lives for her, and shed their blood in a poetic sacrifice, but because millions more were killed on her behalf. But then we must go to the next, and presently more pressing question. Is America still free? This is a fantastic question and one that deserves answering, though I don’t have the answer for you, just what I know to be my truth. You see, in this age or relativity, we have gotten away from genuine truth, and moved to relative truth. ”Well, what’s true for you isn’t necessarily true for me.” And that’s what those running America want. Relativism. But down to what we as Americans believe freedom to be, I say no. Freedom of Speech is infringed upon daily, as is the Freedom of Religion. The right to life is not sacred as 3,500 babies will be killed on whatever day it may be that you read this. An incredibly disproportionate number of these babies will be black because, despite the more than 600,000 civil war deaths to end persecution based on skin color, a certain liberal political party still wants to oppress and kill the black population, and since the beginning of the “Progressive” movement with Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, blacks are specifically targeted by way of Eugenics via abortion and Planned Parenthood.
Memorial Day is supposed to be a day of remembrance for those who paid for our freedoms with their lives, and for those men and women, we are supposed to be grateful. But while many men truly died in decades past for our freedom, many men and women are dying today to advance a corporate agenda. My grandfather fought in the Army in France, Belgium and Germany to preserve freedom from fascism, but now we have a fascist living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. One of his best friends and another of my heroes was a Marine in Korea, fighting against the advance of Communism in Asia, but what happened? Communists are now some of the closest advisers of the President. They fought not to preserve freedom forever, but for awhile. I am so indebted to these two men and many like them as are all Americans, but what about the 500,000 or so Americans who never came home of their own volition from these two wars? Did they die to protect freedom?
Well the short answer is that, yes they did, for a while. But America is no longer truly free. In fact I don’t know if it will ever be free again in the way the founders intended, or in the way the average American believes it is. Now, the most selfless men and women America has to offer go to nations that don’t really want freedom and we impose on them the freedom from tyrannical dictators and lay in their wake tyrannical corporations controlled by an international oligarchy. And what do we have here at home? If you want to peacefully assemble, you need permits. (If you are even granted them) If you want to speak freely, you need to ensure that you speak not against protected classes. If you want to practice the free exercise of religion, you need to ensure that you do not offend those who live lascivious lifestyles. If you want to carry a firearm for defense you have to keep up with increasingly more stringent rules and regulations. If you want to be free in your person, papers and effects, you need to ensure that your person, papers and effects are not in any way connected to the internet. (or travelling on an airplane) If you want to hold onto your property, you need to ensure that your property is not in a profitable area for someone connected to a powerful politician. If you want to ensure your access to rights not specifically given to other branches of government, you need to ensure those rights are not in any way profitable to any well-connected political agenda. And there you have the new bill of rights, “slightly” changed from those adopted over 200 years ago.
America is no longer a truly free nation, and while those men and women we look at as heroes did not all die in vain, those who do now probably do die in vain. I’d love to give the rah, rah patriotism speech to “honor” Memorial Day. But I can’t. My grandfather died before I could truly understand the horrors he went through. His friend nearly broke down telling me the horrors he faced in Korea as a POW. I know that what I saw in Iraq was the catalyst in my transition from liberal to conservative. But through this transition, it was not “neo-conservatism”, but true conservatism.
I understand the value in a man giving up his life for a great cause. This is why real men love movies like “The Lord of the Rings” and “Braveheart.” Dying in defense of something greater than yourself is noble, and honorable. But what about dying for something that is less than honorable? Is it honorable to give up your life for a government that uses you as a tool to advance a political agenda? What about giving up your life for people who don’t even want freedom? Or giving up your life to defend a nation that no longer values life, liberty or the pursuit of happiness? Is it worthwhile to die for a nation that believes that we should steal from those who have spent their lives working and give to those too lazy to work? Frankly, these are the things our troops now fight for, and I am grateful to no longer be fighting for the selfishness of present-day America. To my friends who still are, may God Bless you and keep you, and may you come home safely to your family, fully intact as God deemed I should.
How all this happened, we don’t know. We don’t know who started the argument. (if there was one) We don’t know who started the fight. We don’t know if Zimmerman chased Martin, or if Martin chased Zimmerman. We do know that a boy is dead that should not be, and a man is facing murder charges for defending himself.
Go into ALL the world and preach the gospel to ALL creation. It’s interesting because, this is usually interpreted through human logic to mean, people and not creation, and Christians don’t even preach the good news to people. But the Greek word really means creation, and the Greek word for world, more accurately means universe, and those pesky words ALL, really mean ALL. Why do I bring this up? Well the good news is not being preached by those who call themselves Christians. (with rare exceptions) There is the occasional invitation that is handed out, the occasional gospel tract that is handed out. There are people who occasionally invite someone to their church, but when was the last time you saw (or heard) someone preaching or reading the bible in the town square? You’d think the command was, “go into all (or some) the world and invite a few people to your local church building.”
You might say, “but this post is about moms.” No it really isn’t. You see, while moms are critical in the raising of families, they are not more important than fathers. I might get some hate for this, but it’s true. Children can grow up without their moms, but children who grow up without fathers (most children in America) have a serious deficit. Our society gets this backwards. Men need to be the leaders of their homes, not women. I promoted the movie “Courageous” heavily, and I strongly encourage anyone who hasn’t seen it to go and see it. It paints a picture of the average American family. They’re nice people who have their roles confused, and it shows the journey to fix that, something that too few families actually do. Now how individual responsibilities are divided in each household is up to each family, but the man needs to be the one who leads it, and the movie shows this well.
This is Resurrection Sunday, the day Christians remember that Jesus died in their place, taking their sin upon themselves, and becoming the Lamb of God, the true sacrifice for sins. But for some reason, most people who call themselves Christians will not be celebrating Resurrection Sunday, they will be celebrating Easter. Easter is a pagan holiday that celebrates the pagan fertility goddess Ishtar or for those of you who’ve read your Old Testament, Asherah.
Why is it that Christians are willing to do this? Is it just because it’s tradition? Didn’t Jesus say, “Then some Pharisees and scribes *came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said, “Why do Your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.” And He answered and said to them,“Why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? For God said, ‘HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER,’ and, ‘HE WHO SPEAKS EVIL OF FATHER OR MOTHER IS TO BE PUT TO DEATH.’ But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, “Whatever I have that would help you has been given to God,” he is not to honor his father or his mother.’ And by this you invalidated the word of God for the sake of your tradition. You hypocrites, rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you: ‘THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME. ‘BUT IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME, TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE PRECEPTS OF MEN.’”
“Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. You know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin. No one who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him. Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious:
